On behalf of the Toin ISBME 2021 Organizing Committee, I would like to cordially invite you to the 16th Toin International Symposium on Biomedical Engineering. This year’s symposium will be held in a combination of onsite and online sessions with adequate safety precautions against infectious diseases. Due to the impact of COVID-19, which has been continuing since last year, research activities are restricted and interaction is very difficult. However, we believe that it is important to maintain our research community by any means possible in this difficult situation. It aims to provide young researchers in the Yokohama area of Japan with stimulating opportunities to interact with each other and to develop human resources who will be active on the international stage.
Biomedical engineering is one of the interdisciplinary scientific fields covering a wide range of fields such as life sciences, molecular and cellular biology, genetic engineering, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, polymer science, drug delivery systems, stereolithography, medical ultrasound, dye-sensitized solar cells, and artificial intelligence for medical diagnosis. We hope that students who aim to work in such a wide range of fields will be stimulated by topics that go beyond their own specialties.
I also hope that the participants will create memories of friendship and goodwill that will serve as the basis for science and technology.
